Mas Gabinele, Faugeres, Languedoc, France, stock photography samples, by Per Karlsson, BKWine — This is only a selection of samples. Use Image SEARCH to find more photos — Mas Gabinèle is a wine domaine in the Faugères region in the Languedoc in the south of France. The Domaine Mas Gabinele is located in a tiny village, not much more than a collection of houses in the middle of the hilly Languedoc landscape. The winery is the creation of Thierry Rodriguez, a wine merchant who bought his first vineyard parcels here in 1997 (although he is the grandson of a wine grower).

Mas Gabinele has today some 12 hectares of land, 10 of which are vineyards planted with vines. Most of the vines are planted on parcels with a terrifyingly austere soil: hard schist rocks that you sometimes even wonder how it is possible to drive a tractor on.

Mas Gabinele makes several different wines. There is the “standard” range with red and rosé, made from syrah, carignan, grenache and mourvèdre. There is also a “prestige” cuvee called Rarissime and a Vin de Pays, as well as a sweet red made from grenache. The wines are generally very modern in style.

Faugeres, where Mas Gabinele is located, is a sub-region in the Languedoc with many interesting wine producers. Much of the soil here is schist (slate), and the climate is dry and hot. Some parts of the appellation are on quite elevated altitudes.
