The world’s oldest living organisms in pictures

How old do you think the world’s oldest living thing is?

No, it’s older.

Rachel Sussman has made a photo project on photographing the world’s oldest living organisms. She has taken pictures of parsley, strangulating fungi, old trees, brain coral.

Her starting point was that the organisms had to be at least 2000 years old.

A single-tree forest that is 80,000 years old?

Yes it’s all there.

An amazing project.

Watch the video on the project “The Oldest Living Things in the World”, from the fantastic and captivating TED project:

So THE oldest living this then: between 400,000 and 600,000 years old. (towards the end of the video)

(Thanks to Petapixel for finding it!)
