Carles Pastrana of Clos de l’Obac (or Costers del Siurana) was one of the first of the “new wave” winemakers in Priorat (or Priorato). He created the Clos de l’Obac vineyard (all wineries should be called Clos Something at the time). The winery is actually called Costers del Siurana but is equally known under the name of one of it’s wines, the Clos de l’Obac. It is located a short walk’s distance from Gratallops, one of the main villages in Priorat. From the winery you have a pretty view over the surrounding hillsides, covered with terraced vineyards. Their main wine is the red Clos de l’Obac from garnacha and cariñena grapes for the most part. There is a sweet Dolc de l’Obac, and also two cuvees called Miserere and Kyrie (a white wine). The use modern winemaking techniques, using stainless steel tanks and temperature control. Some of the wines are fermented in open ended small oak barrels (barriques). The wine is aged in oak barrels.
